Travel guide to Campania
Campania is an expression of beauty, drama, history, culture and sun and sea: A long the Amalfi's shore, there are classic cities such as Ravello, Amalfi, Sorrento and Positano. Here's Sorrento peninsula with views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. Campania is a magical experience full of romance, charm and grand monuments. The region also has a rich nature with beautiful coastlines, islands, mountains and rivers.
The capital and largest city is Naples. Founded by the Greeks and was named Neapolis. Naples is a mix of everything, greatness, new, old, and a little maturity in some areas. It can be given in particular Italy's archaeological National Museum, the Duomo, Castelnuovo, the Royal Palace and much more. Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, etc.. along the Amalfi Coast have all their own charm and is beautifully situated on the slopes of the coast. In the high-altitude town of Ravello we will find two beautiful giant houses with associated gardens; Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone and there is a fantastic view out over the Amalfi Coast from the city, which is 350 meters above sea level. The Sorrento Peninsula is Sorrento despite much tourists a delightful experience. The city spreads out on the slopes and from several places one can enjoy spectacular views of Naples Bay.
There is one airport in Naples. The Sorrento is best reached by bus or train from Naples or Rome.
Sun and beaches
You can almost always count on good weather in Campania. Because many of the most interesting cities is located on the coast it is advantageous to combine the holiday with sun and sea and city life. There are no sandy beaches, there are most rocks and swimming docks. If you like to snorkel, there are many opportunities to explore the sea around cliffs.
From Naples and Sorrento goes several boats / ferries each day, the journey takes 20-40 minutes. If you want to experience the island with something less tourists is one idea to go over to Capri in the afternoon when all the tourists leave the island. You will spend the night and you can calmly enjoy this beautiful island, then leave the island in the morning when tourists arrive. Capri has long been a popular getaway among writers, artists, movie stars from all over the world, which has made the island world famous. Perhaps the most famous personalities of culture was the Swedish author and physician Axel Munthe, who for many years lived on Capri and in particular considered the Queen Victoria here. Munthe's Villa San Michele, located in the second city of the island, Anacapri, was donated to the Swedish state and serves as a kind of cultural center and tourist attraction.
Everything you eat and drink (especially one's own limoncello) keeps good standard of Capri. But it is expensive, so get your mind away from the center for something more reasonable prices. There are plenty of luxury small boutiques but also lots of artisans who produce sculptures, paintings and sandals, which are a specialty. When you need to cool off, the main bath from rocky and pebbly beaches that apply. Some long sandy beaches are not.
Eat in Campania
The region is very rich in exciting materials for example fungi, lemons, hazelnuts, berries, figs, chestnuts, delicious local sausages and cheeses, where it's most famous cheese is Mozzarella di Buffala. Here we eat a lot of fresh fish, otherwise as in many other parts of Italy much lamb and pork. You can find really good food experiences on the Sorrento Peninsula, this is in fact some of the best Italian restaurants. In the area around Naples, you can eat Capitone which is a large conger eel cooked in different ways. Anchovies are also common to eat in Campania, salted, fresh or fried.
